Are you interested in pursuing a career in counseling? As a counselor, you can make a real difference in the lives of individuals and communities by providing support, guidance, and resources to help people cope with a variety of challenges.

To become a counselor, you will typically need to complete a degree program in counseling or a related field. Many programs require courses in counseling theories, techniques, and ethics, as well as supervised clinical experience.

After completing your degree, you may also need to obtain licensure or certification in your state or country in order to practice as a counselor. The requirements for licensure or certification can vary, so it’s important to research the specific requirements in your area.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in counseling, there are many resources and training programs available to help you achieve your goals. Professional organizations like the American Counseling Association and the National Board for Certified Counselors offer valuable resources, networking opportunities, and continuing education options for counselors.

Advocates Wanted

PowerUs, Inc. is actively seeking volunteers who are interested in serving as advocates for survivors of domestic violence, poverty, and other forms of crisis. As an advocate, you will play a critical role in helping individuals and families navigate the complex system of non-profits and government programs to access the resources and services they need to thrive.

While unlicensed advocates may not have the same level of training and credentials as licensed counselors, they can still make a significant difference in the lives of those they serve. By providing support, information, advocacy, and referrals, unlicensed advocates can help individuals navigate difficult situations and access the resources they need to thrive.

Advocates work closely with clients to assess their needs, provide information and guidance, and connect them with local organizations that can provide support and assistance. This may involve helping survivors of domestic violence obtain restraining orders or find safe housing, assisting individuals and families in accessing government programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), or connecting clients with legal services, counseling, and other forms of support.

At PowerUs, Inc., we believe that advocacy is a powerful tool for promoting positive social and political change, and we are committed to providing our volunteers with the training and support they need to be effective advocates for those in need. If you are passionate about helping others and making a difference in your community, we encourage you to consider becoming an advocate with PowerUs, Inc.
